My Goal for the Blog

Ok...well I'm not going to "homeschool" for kindergarden and up but I also don't think "pre-school" is something we need. So... I am preparing my child for kindergarden at home. I call it home pre-school (creative I know).

I would like to help other moms doing the same and hopefully create a "village" of moms who are doing this so we can all help each other and create outings etc... Now my kids are 2 1/2 and 4 so I am trying to make my activies range for those ages - there will be different options availble on most days :). Example Kyler is still working on 2 where as Kaden is working on 20 so "2 day" works on both. There will be easy pages and harder worksheets.

I will post our monthly themes, any pre-kindergarden info that I find. I do only 3 days of themes a week. I like to leave days open for grocery shopping etc... I would love any and all reponses that anybody cares to share.

***Update*** I have stopped posting the everyday lessons, just becuase that's a lot of time. But the themes are listed below in the monthly calendar. If you want more info on a specific day or theme just let me know, I would be happy to share :)

Week of March 16-20 Space Week

Monday
Day #4 Gen 1 :14
Sun, Moon, Star
M=Moon

Melted Crayon Earth - (younger kids) You can adjust this to make the sun, planets anything really
http://www.makingfriends.com/earth_crayon.htm
You need: Earth Pattern
Blue and Green Crayon Shavings, Wax Paper, Adult with Warm Iron
Instructions:
Place a piece of wax paper over Earth pattern. Sprinkle crayon shavings (sparingly!) on wax paper following the design on the download. Place another piece of wax paper on top of shavings and a blank sheet of paper or a cloth over that. Gently press down with a warm iron. Crayon will melt quickly. Cut wax paper into a circle around the design. Tape or hang in window.

Two-liter telescopes (older kids)
Cut off the bottom of a 2-ltr bottle.Students should wrap a black piece of construction paper around the bottle and secure with glue or tape. Copy four different constellations on white copy paper (draw them on the 4 outer edges of the paper). Give each child a piece of black construction paper and a push pin (thumb tack with a grip on the end). Have them lay the white copy on top of the black paper. Use the push pin to poke thru each star (dot) to make a constellation. Look through the pour spout on the 2 ltr. holding it with one hand. with other hand, hold the black paper up to the cut end of 2 ltr, positioning one of the punched-out "constellations" in the middle of the cut hole. Look up toward a light source.

Wednesday & Friday (break-up how you wish)

II Kings 23:5  5 He did away with the pagan priests appointed by the kings of Judah to burn incense on the high places of the towns of Judah and on those around Jerusalem-those who burned incense to Baal, to the sun and moon, to the constellations and to all the starry hosts.  (NIV)

Planets – Mercury, Mars, Venus, Neptune (all follow our letters this month)
Additional planets are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Pluto (dwarf planet)
Other space words that follow our letters are Meteor, aXis, Milky Way Galaxy

The order of the planets…
by position relative to the Sun:
inner planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars.
outer planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.
The asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter forms the boundary between the inner solar system and the outer solar system.

Mercury - Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and the eighth largest.  Mercury's day last as long as 59 of our days.

Venus – Venus is the second planet in the solar system.  Except for the sun and our moon, Venus is the brightest object in the sky.  Venus day is actually longer than it's year.  It's year is 225 days it's day is 243 of our days.

Earth – Earth is the only planet to have liquid water on it's surface ( 71%) and to have life.  It's the 3rd planet from the sun and the 5th largest. Earth has one moon.

Mars - Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and the seventh largest: it has 2 moons.  Mars days are only 1 hours longer than Earths but It's year is much longer 687 days.

Jupiter - Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and by far the largest. Jupiter is the fourth brightest object in the sky (after the Sun, the Moon and Venus). The Great Red Spot (GRS) has been seen by Earthly observers for more than 300 years, the spot is big enough to hold two Earths.   It is actually a storm.  Jupiter has 3 rings, and 63 known moons.  Jupiter's day is 10 of our hours and one year on Jupiter takes 12 of Earth years.

Saturn - Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second largest.  It has 56 known moons, and spectacular rings made up of pieces of ice and rock.

Uranus - Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun and the third largest (by diameter). There are 11 known rings, all very faint.  Uranus has 27 moons.

Neptune - Neptune is the eighth planet from the Sun and the fourth largest (by diameter).  It appears blue to our eyes, and has 13 moons.

Pluto - It is much smaller than any of the official planets and now classified as a "dwarf planet". Pluto rotates in the opposite direction from most of the other planets.  It has 3 moons.

Earth's Moon -  The gravity between the moon and earth make the waves in the ocean.  There have been 12 astronauts that have walked on the moon.  The moon stabilizes the Earth's wobble and climate.  The moon looks bright because it reflects the sun's light like a mirror.

Sun – Did you know the sun produces a high-pitched sound that has been recorded?  The sun is a star, just really close to Earth.  All planets move around the sun in ovals.  The sun is 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit, very, very hot.

Meteor – a.k.a. shooting star.  The are a piece of iron and rock that comes thru our atmosphere and burns up making it look like a start moving.

Milky Way Galaxy – We live in an "arm" of the Milky Way.  It is made up of lots of starts, and other solar systems.

Crafts -
This link as like a billion craft ideas - they are all great

a few more ideas are

Moon Walking Shoes

Thick sponges
Rubber Bands or String

Tie thick sponges to the bottom of your child's shoes. This will give your child the feeling of walking on the moon.

Pintables

here are a bunch of printable for your child - for letters and numbers etc...
